Implement Queue Groups
A Queue Group is simply a custom selection of queues that you bundle into a group. Members of a group must share compatible print drivers to ensure that a print job sent to one device will print on the other compatible members of the group.
Workflow offers two types of queue groups, and each type provides its own benefits:
- Compatibility Group – Compatible Printer Groups are used to group devices with compatible drivers devices , so that users can release jobs to any compatible device. When a user views the secure job list, they can choose their queue, and the Compatibility column in the Job List indicates whether or not the job can be printed to that queue.
- Load Balance Group – A Load Balance group controls what printers a job could be automatically printed to when used with a Load Balance queue. Devices within the group must also be driver compatible, but the application of this group type is slightly different than Compatibility Groups. As an example, if an organization has a busy print environment where they have a printing room with 5 compatible high end MFPs, but they want to expose only one shared printer queue called "Print Room", the Administrator can create a load balance group that contains all 5 devices and then configure the queue on the "Print Room" printer to be a load balance queue. When a user prints Workflow determines the best queue to print to, releases the job to that queue, and then informs the user which printer is going to print their document. The logic used to determine the best queue is based on whether or not the printer is up and available, followed by the number of pending jobs for that device.
